One piece of Japanese cultural that I would like to share is a song called "Secret Base" from the hit anime "Anohana". "Anohana" follows the story of a group of childhood friends who are split apart by the accidental death of Menma, one of the friends, and the guilt that they feel in failing to prevent it. 10 years later, Menma's spirit appears before Jinta, another one of the friends, and the estranged members of the Super Peace Busters slowly come together once again as they attempt to put Menma's spirit at peace and at the same time resolve the guilt and misunderstandings that hold them back. "Secret Base" perfectly captures the emotions of this anime, as well as themes of innocence, friendship, and self-realization.

はじめまして、きむです。どおぞよろしく!Depending on what time of day it is, おはよう、こんにちは、こんばんは and welcome to my blog. In my very first entry I will be explaining why I chose to study Japanese. I actually studied Japanese in high school but for various reasons I was not able to learn very much. My teacher was often sick, and my class had a substitute for long periods of time. She was also not a proper Japanese instructor, but was originally an English teacher. Most of the time our class only learned vocabulary or watched Japanese movies. Because of this, my Japanese education was poor. I am motivated to study Japanese at Notre Dame so that I can have a more complete Japanese education. I would like to eventually master the language. I also enjoy Japanese animated movies, such as Miyazaki movies and Japanese animated shows. I grew up watching Dragon Ball and Pokemon and occasionally watch some shows from time to time. Thank you for reading my first blog entry. じゃあまた!
